Water Park

This evening we went to the Water Park in Lima which has many water fountains and a 15 minute water show. The show itself was not that interesting, primarily a wall of water thrown up and then videos and lasers projected on it, like this:

The fountains were more interesting.

The last one is a tunnel of water you walk through without getting wet. Very cool.

After the water park we went out to eat.

We always ask our guides to recommend places where the locals go for local food. We don't want to go to tourist places filled with Americans. Sometimes that means we end up in a place like this. No tourists and the food was pretty good. But the locals apparently eat earlier because as we finished they were stacking chairs on the tables. No English menu and the waiter didn't speak English (and we don't read Spanish very well). But a young couple were leaving as we were contemplating the menu and the woman spoke excellent English and helped us decipher the menu. Fortunately for those of us (mostly me) who don't make the effort to learn other languages, young people everywhere are usually quite proficient in English. Thanks to Hollywood?

We got some disturbing news today about our trip to Machu Pichu. Our good friend Sabine sent us a news story that there are protests in Cusco and Machu Pichu against a law that permits the private management of lesser known Peruvian archaeological sites. Transportation at the Cusco airport was disrupted and the train to Machu Pichu was cancelled for yesterday and today. We can only hope that everything calms down by the time we get there.
