lava. It is home to a large cacti forest, land iguanas and many sea
lions. We saw a sea lion pup that couldn't have been more than a few
weeks old. Along the cliffs of the island it was very windy and various
birds such as Nazca boobies and swallow-tailed gulls.
The ship is pretty comfortable. It has a maximum capacity of 48
passengers but only 26 on this trip, of which 11 of us are from the
group that toured Machupicchu. The food has been amazingly good, we have
become pretty wary of ship food especially after the horrible food on
the boat that took us down the Yangtze River.
Last night we saw sharks swimming around our boat, barely visible in the
lights from the ship. We may see them when we snorkel this afternoon.
They are "cousins" of the great whites but are not interested in eating
us. We're told that if they mistakenly take a bite of us they will spit
it out and go away. You just hope the bite isn't fatal.
