Today, Friday, we flew from Lima to Guayaquil on our way to the Galapagos. We had to leave the hotel to head to the airport at 5:30am so we showered, laid out our clothes, and packed our bags the night before. We arrived late morning and were picked up by our guide and taken on a tour of Guayaquil.
First we visited Parque de las Iguanas famous for all of the iguanas running wild. Note the one up in the tree.
Then we walked through Old Town Guayaquil.
We learned that the famous Panama Hat is actually of Ecuadorian origin. The hats were made in Ecuador then were shipped first to the Isthmus of Panama before being shipped to the rest of the world. Thus they became known as Panama Hats. We were taken to a hat shop and each bought one. Will show pictures later.
Tomorrow we fly to the Galapagos Islands. Fortunately we leave the hotel at a more reasonable hour of 10:30am. It is a 90 minute flight. Then we board the ship Eclipse which is chartered by our tour company Abercrombie & Kent.
